Healing of the Earth Vigil

Where: Mission of the Sacred Heart (Cataldo Mission), Old Mission State Park, 31732 S Mission Rd., Cataldo ID, 83810
Cataldo, ID- Saturday, Oct. 4, 1-2 pm PST, many including the Coeur d’Alene tribe, Silver Valley Community Resource Center, church groups, environmental leaders, those who are living in the Bunker Hill Superfund site with gather at the Mission of the Sacred Heart to express their acts of love and tenderness for Mother Earth. With particular outreach for the closure of the toxic waste repository constructed across the road from the Mission, calling for reparation for the lives of those who have been harmed, exploited due to the pollution in the Bunker Hill Superfund site.
The Vigil is a time to pray, reflect, to mourn the loss and to commit ourselves to concrete steps to heal and prevent future damage.”

The date coincides with the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of the environment. The Vigil marks the 10th Anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical, Lautato Si’ “the cry of Mother Earth and cry of the poor” connecting environmental crises, the social and human despair as those who are impacted by the contamination work to close the repository, seeking funding for a Community Lead Health Center.
This week, Pope Leo inaugurated the village Borgo Laudato Si’, a place that inspires spirituality, education, history and the need to protect nature for our children’s future generations to provide sustainable innovations, much like the groups along with thousands of individuals are calling for solutions.
The Vigil is a time to be informed of action to take in recovering the impacts to the lives, the air, water, and ancestral preservation of all that has been damaged. To regain the responsibility and respect for all that continues to be harmed.
