Welcome to Washington

The state of Washington has such a diversity of ecological systems and urban environments, that toxic cleanups must take on a variety of different methods.  Some of our members are at the political forefront, promoting local and state environmental legislation, and holding public representatives accountable.  Other groups are in the thick of it, helping to clean up toxic sites that present a health hazard to their communities, their neighborhoods and their local waters.

Washington's river systems suffer greatly by the dumping of toxic waste such as, PCB's, heavy metals, dioxins, and storm water drainage.  Some of our member organizations have identified over 70 different toxic chemicals and metals in one site alone.  Rivers and waterways such as, the Spokane, Duwamish, Columbia, Puget Sound and Bellingham Bay are represented by hard-working and dedicated environmental groups.

Other groups are helping to educate their communities by creating environmental justice campaigns, providing lessons on urban farming, and creating outreach programs for local youth.
