Informational Webinar: "How Do Our Hazardous Waste Site Cleanups Compare?" by Dr. Peter L. deFur

Dr. Peter L. deFur, President of Environmental Stewardship Concepts based in Henrico VA  gave a presentation at the University of Washington in Seattle on November 19 comparing cleanup sites on which he is working in USEPA Region 10 -- Rayonier-Port Angeles Harbor, Seattle Duwamish River, and Portland Harbor.  Dr. deFur covered the contaminants at each site, compared cleanup options between the three sites, covered alternative cleanup methods available to be used on particular contaminants, and compared agency support of the citizen groups at the different sites.

These cleanups are overseen by the WA State Department of Ecology and/or the USEPA.  In WA State, these cleanups are part of the Puget Sound Partnership Cleanup Initiative.

Dr. deFur's trip was made possible by Futurewise and the Olympic Environmental Council with WA State Department of Ecology Public Participation Grants.  The webinar was hosted by the University of Washington Superfund Research Program.
